10 Reasons Why You Need Office Ergonomics

The art of running an organisation smoothly depends on how efficient the employees are. Say, for example, if an organisation is a race car, the employees are the engine it runs on. Hence, organisations must look into office ergonomics – the science of designing a workplace taking an employee’s skills and limitations into consideration. Here are 10 reasons why a company should have an office ergonomics program in place.

#1 – Temperature consideration

Studies show that employees show a higher level of productivity when the thermal conditions are under their control. Their comfort with regards to humidity and temperature fluctuations cannot be compromised with.

#2 – Natural source of light and view

Access to natural light and view helps to reinforce a positive attitude in employees. Organizations should encourage their employees to take a break and step outside the office for a change of scene.

#3 – Visual stimulation with colours

Office spaces with minimal décor and neutral colours don’t support employee productivity. Offices can have bright coloured staircases and textured walls as bright colours are associated with high focus and accuracy at work. Workplaces with colourful artwork and graphics can help boost creativity.

#4 - Air Quality

Since employees spend a lot of time indoors, the air quality needs to be investigated as it is associated with employee well-being and quality of life. Excess humidity, presence of air pollutants are some factors that affect employee health.

#5 – Employee Engagement

Employees need to collaborate for successful work results and efficiency. Workspaces that encourage employee engagement and collaboration show high-profit achievement, employee turnover and satisfaction.

#6 – Planning spacious workstations

Restricted work desks can cause musculoskeletal ailments like back pain, joint pains, etc. Workstations should be designed to encourage body movement. Flexible office layouts motivate employees to move around and avoid a sedentary work lifestyle.

#7 – Noise moderation

Noise being one of the major workplace distractions can disable employee productivity and concentration. Providing access to sound barriers or sound-proofed rooms, allow employees to control the noise around them and deflect other distractions.

#8 – Need for recreation

Employees who work continuously show a decline in focus and are often too tired. Having recreational zones like a gym, TV room or gaming room in offices encourages them to take a break during work hours and relax to gain energy.

#9 – Flexible layouts

Offices with flexible work settings foster collaborative efforts in employees that help to achieve better work results. At the same time providing spacious silent zones for focus-oriented tasks ensures work accuracy.

#10 – Security

Office spaces need to be stocked with safety equipment to avoid any security malfunction or life-threatening situations. Privacy security kits should be given to employees when dealing with confidential tasks. Providing life security helps to boost employee morale.
