Lodha goes the green way with IGBC

Mumbai, February 14, 2022: Lodha, India’s No.1* real estate developer, announces adoption of IGBC Green Building Ratings for its entire residential portfolio in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune. Committed to the vision of building a better life, Lodha has registered its residential projects amounting to over 25 million sq. ft., under suitable IGBC Green Residential Building Ratings. With this development, Lodha brings its entire portfolio spanning residential, commercial developments and industrial parks within the ambit of green certifications.

Commenting on the announcement, Aun Abdullah, ESG Leader, Lodha said, “We shoulder a significant responsibility to do what is right for addressing future climate risks. Focused on our commitment to provide a better Earth to our future generations, we established a North star goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035. Through IGBC Green Buildings Ratings, we wish to illustrate that our projects are always designed with sustainability at their core. Our medium-term goal is to be a 'net positive' organization - focusing not just on economic profit, but also creating a positive impact on society and the environment."

Lodha has been an IGBC Founding Member since the year 2007. Lodha has the rare distinction of being an IGBC Green Champion Organisation for demonstrating their commitment to the green building movement th rough various activities like creating awareness, taking leadership in adopting green building for their own facilities, etc. Lodha is also a signatory to IGBC’s Mission on Net Zero. This also adds to the list of Lodha’s climate action in line with their net zero commitment made last year.

Mr Gurmit Singh Arora, National Chairman, IGBC lauded Lodha’s green initiatives and congratulated them on their Net Zero vision. He added that Lodha’s projects would continue to inspire many other developers in Maharashtra and across the country to adopt green building design, construction, and operational practices. He said that IGBC is proud to have stakeholders such as the Lodha as patrons of the green building movement in India.

Lodha’s residential projects were registered under these three IGBC Green Residential Building Ratings:

IGBC Green Homes Rating: applicable for upcoming residential buildings. This rating system addresses green features under the following major categories:

- Water and Energy Conservation

- Use of Certified green products

- Effective management of Construction & Demolition Waste

- Futuristic Provisions such as e-vehicle charging

- Indoor Environmental

A green home can have tremendous benefits, both tangible and intangible. The immediate and most tangible benefit is up to 30% reduction in electricity bills and up to 50% reduction in water consumption, as compared to conventional projects. Green Buildings also lead to improved health & wellbeing of occupants.

IGBC Green Affordable Housing Rating: overarching objective is to ensure a high degree of  sustainability with selective measures that are simple yet have profound impacts in conserving the environment. Few of the central indicators that should be applicable to an upcoming IGBC green affordable housing project are as follows:

- Basic Facilities for Construction Workforce

- Passive Architecture

- Occupants’ access to social infrastructure and community bonding

- Alternate Construction Materials and Technologies

IGBC Green Residential Societies Rating: addresses the specific requirements of existing residential buildings such as:

- Improving Energy, Water and Waste Management practices and sustaining them over the years

- Green Education

- Innovative Green Maintenance Practices by Developer and RWA

About IGBC
Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), formed by CII in 2001, is spearheading the green building movement in India.
